Ingrid Hentschel ist Professorin für Theater, Spiel und Kultur an der Fachhochschule Bielefeld. Mit ihren zahlreichen Forschungsprojekten und Veröffentlichungen zu den Entwicklungen des Gegenwartstheaters sowie zur Theorie und Ästhetik des Kinder- und Jugendtheaters hat sie maßgeblich sowohl zum Selbstverständnis als auch zur Reflexion der Theaterkunst beigetragen.
